Act Before It’s Perfect: Pilot, Learn & Scale

Is there something you’ve been meaning to try as a leader but keep putting off until you feel more ready?

Leading in 2026 means constant change, more uncertainty, and less time to plan everything in advance. Waiting until you feel fully prepared often means waiting indefinitely.

The real barrier usually isn’t skill or opportunity. It’s the belief that a new habit or approach must be fully formed before it’s worth trying. That belief keeps good instincts in draft folders.

I’m sure we’ve all worked with people who don’t launch anything until it’s “airtight.” But nothing is ever “airtight” unless it’s discussed, tested, pulled apart and iterated. That’s what gets us to perfection. So, if you are finding that perfection is seriously hindering your progress, here’s what you can do.

  • Try early. Start with a version of the change that’s smaller and rougher than feels comfortable.

  • Learn quickly. Notice what the small test tells you before deciding whether the bigger version is worth it.

  • Adjust easily. Let go of the first version once you have better information, rather than sticking with it out of pride.

  • Scale confidently. Build the habit or approach up once you’ve seen it work on a small scale.

Waiting to feel ready will always feel like the responsible choice. The question is whether it’s building your confidence or just delaying it.

If there’s something you’ve been putting off until you feel more prepared, let’s talk about a smaller way to start. Grab 30 minutes and let’s talk it through.
